Before I begin extolling the virtues of the maxi dress, I should explain that I am a lover of all dresses and feminine clothing. In the summer I can allow this passion for all things girly to really take hold, with the warmer weather allowing for much less consideration over practicalities of clothing. Also summer parties, weddings and barbeques present the perfect opportunity to get dressed up in a beautiful summer dress.
The maxi dress is a great item of clothing which can be used to cover a multitude of sins and also whilst still showing off ones greatest assets. There are a variety of different styles of maxi dress from the sleeved version to the halter neck style. All have a very feminine feel to them and a hint of seventies nostalgia. They can fit in with a variety of trends for the summer including boho and folk, floral prints and African or tribal inspired prints. There are also lots of evening version of the maxi dress which can look amazing for a more formal occasion.
The art of looking amazing in one is a combination of choosing just the right style for your body shape and accessorising perfectly. For petites, a slim fit maxi dress in one colour is ideal, it will look elegant and feminine without looking out of proportion. For large ladies a dress with a bold print will look great and really make them stand out in the crowd. Those that do not like their arms can either add a shrug or choose a style with sleeves. Those that are really tall can get away with almost any style of maxi dress. Wedge shoes are the best option for wearing with a maxi dress with chunky jewellery and a clutch to keep the look fresh and modern.
