Summer Trend 2010; How to Wear a Maxi Dress

The maxi dress trend has been around for a couple of years now, but it's showing no signs of stopping for this summer. They may take some getting used to but there is a style of maxi dress to suit every shape and size. Here modelling agency Models Direct offers some tips.• Make sure you get the right length. Maxi dresses can be worn by tall and short ladies, but if you're at the shorter end of the spectrum avoid dresses that are too long as they will make you look smaller.• If you're worried about a large tummy, Models Direct suggests going for an empire waist maxi dress. This style draws attention to your bust with the fabric falling from just below meaning your stomach is hidden but without covering your entire figure. You should also avoid dresses that are gathered around the waist as they will make you appear larger.• If you're looking for a multipurpose dress, choose a well-cut black maxi. This will serve you not only as a casual day dress but can also be glammed up for the evening.• If you're looking for a printed maxi dress, the type you choose will depend on your body shape. If you are small and slender, a dress with a small print will suit you best. Similarly Models Direct suggests that if you have a larger frame, bigger patterns will be more flattering.• Adding a short, fitted cardigan or jacket in a complementary colour will complete your outfit. Choosing a short jacket will also make you appear taller - perfect if you'd like some extra height!• Open-toed shoes such as wedges or gladiator sandals are the best shoes to wear for the summery, casual feel; however, espadrilles also work. You can make a maxi dress more dressy by teaming it with some strappy heels. Whatever you do, don't pair it with boots!• Remember, if you're trying to hide lumps and bumps, dark solid colours will be more flattering - but as long as the cut and size is right for your body shape, Models Direct think it's a shame not to embrace the summery colours and prints that work so well on maxi dresses.
